Hans Ranar Mathisen has devoted his artistic life to map Sápmi, the lands where Sámi people have lived for time immemorial across Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The map presents the nordic region without border limits and marked exclusively with Sámi names for cities, towns and Sami villages. In addition to the 1975 map, Mathisen has made more than 50 maps of regions of Sápmi, as well as other Indigenous peoples.

Sábmi with only Sámi place names is a reminder of the multiple ways in wich Kiruna (Giron in Sami) has been historically 'relocated' beyond the buildings and the built environment.
